Self reflection n4

May 29th, 2010 by

1.  In your opinion, what was the purpose of this blogging activity? (Why did Ms. Rumford decide to spend so much time on blogging instead of more traditional writing activities?)

The main purpose of blogging for me was to develop our writing skills, our vocabulary and our understanding of blogs which are all going to help in the future. Blogging helps us express ourselves about anything which you want to talk about, i used to have many problems telling a story or a joke to somebody, and if you want people to hear about a certain something then it definitely helps in doing so. I have always wanted to talk about something in detail to others who do not know anything it.  To me as were heading towards the future we are using technology more and more instead of using a pen and paper, so its best if we know how to do it in advance and it also teaches us many things that we do not know yet.

2.  What have you accomplished during your blogging and give specifics to support your ? (Think outside the box–remember, you are global citizens.)

The main point for blogging for me was to get my voice out there because the hardest problem for most people is getting there voices out there and to also fix my difficulties of telling a story or explaining something which has happened. I used to have writers block a lot wen I first started blogging and before that , but now words I have learned different ways to overcome writers block and It doesn’ t happen as much as it used to. While writing blogs  before I would rush everything so I never ever took my time doing my bogs and in the need they would be full of errors like a misspelled word, a name without a capital letter,  a missing comma, a phrase which does not make sense or just a missing word. Most of the problems I used to have were solved either in class or while while writing my blogs, and I think its the same for a lot of people.  I’m certain that I have accomplished many things while writing my different blogs and even while doing this self reflection.

3.  What key concepts have you learned while blogging? (This can be about writing, research or technology etc.)

I have learned many things while blogging like how to set up a clustr map, linking a word to your blog, adding a pictureor a video, placing your blogs in order, changing the color of your text and most important how to run your own blog. Not everything I learned about blogs was about technology, I also leaned how to use simple, compound, complex, compound-complex phrases, how not to plagerize while researching an idea because I used to plagerize a lot before without even knowing I was doing so and it helped me understand and solve this problem, not copying the style of another author, finding you own style of writing, finding my own style of writing was probably the hardest part of blogging because in some of my blogs I would change style because I had read something from a different author which would sound like I had just plagerized and finally the true way to use comas in a sentence. Before the blogs when writing I would not know what to do with commas, so I would put them anywhere to make it look like I knew what I was doing

4.  How did the weekly requirements (different sentences, word count, word choice, voice, research, linking, embedding, intro-body-conclusion, concise writing, etc.) help you become a better writer? For example, identifying and highlighting your sentences, knowing when to use a comma, semi-colon, phrases and clauses, etc.

Well, when I learned how to use the different sentences I was surprised on how little I knew about it, and I saw the many mistakes I was doing like where I need to put a comma in a compund sentence and how not to put one in a complex sentence. Yes it did take some time changing all my sentences to the proper form but it was all worth it in the end, and I’m sure it will help me in the future. The word count which was given to us was a problem for me because even though I had a lot of information about what I wanted to write about, and I could not put everything without going overboard on the word count. I learned that before blogging I was putting to much information into my blog which made it hard to understand, and some of it was not necessary so in time I’ve learned how to pile all my information in small blog. Commas, clauses, semi-colon  My word choice when I first started was not so good, and after many blogs using the many different words, I have mastered the usage of how and when to use them. I have learned many things about being a blogger and how all of it will help in my future writings.

5. Based on the skills (writing, technology, perspective) you learned while blogging, how will this benefit you in the future? This maybe inside or outside of school.

All of this could help me with various jobs which include being a journalist, a web designer or something completly different. It will also help me in the future if I decide to write blogs or if one of our teachers asks us to write a blog, and I will know all the neccesary steps to do it. I have leaned many different thing while reading other people blogs, andI have enjoyed all of them from the vidoes of racing cars to biography’ s of Bill Gates.  Its really help me a lot because the job I would wwant want focuses on on these principales, so in the future I will have some understanding of how to do so.

Bakuman and Area no kishi

May 16th, 2010 by

The mangas I’m going to write aboute are two completly different mangas when it comes to genres. Bakuman is writen by the two people who wrote the famous death note, Ohba Tsuqumi and Obata Takeshi. This time around they have gone for a comedy/slice of life manga instead of a mystery/Tragedy which are a lot different. Bakuman is the story of two mangaka, Mashiro and Takagi. Mashiro is a normal boy with normal grades who wishes nothing more then to complete his exams and get a normal job, in mashiro’s past, when he was young, he wanted to be a mangaka like is uncle but soon forgot about it after his death. Takagi on the other hand is a straight A student with no worries, only that he wants to write mangas but does not have the drawing skills to do it. To be a magaka he will need to find a partner to draw his storyes. One day he stumbles upon Mashiro’s  Notebook wich contain great drawings of the person he likes.  Takagi then tries to blackmail Mashiro into becoming a manga artist, but fails because Mashiro decides himself to be patners with him. As the story continues it gets stranger and stranger but not meaning it gets bad, I mean it gets really good and interesting also comedic. This manga has a lot of great tips if you want to be a mangaka and is really hillarious. Some people might think that its boring because its not got any action in it but if decide to read it and give it a go, You will enjoy it.

Are no kishi is writen by Iquano Hiroaki and drawn by Tsuqiyama kaya. This is a manga about soccer, and if you play soccer and enjoy mangas then this might be for you, i’m not saying you will definetly like it but  you must give it a try. Area no kishi or knight of the area is the story of a teenage boy called Azawa Kakeru. His brother suguru, is said to be the new hope for Japanese soccer. When Azawa was young, he quit football after injuring one of his teamates in practice and decided to be the manager for his brothers team, and hopes to be the manager for his brother forever. His bother Suguru on the other hand has different ideas for him and sees the great potential in him as a striker, and believes he needs a knight to be a complete king. In all the mist of this the old teammate seven returns from America.

Katekyo Hitman Reborn! and Beelzebub

May 10th, 2010 by

In this blog I will be writing about a famous shonen jump manga and a not so new manga called Beelzebub, and why I like them. Katekyo hitman reborn is writtern and drawn by Amano akira, its the story of a young rather shriveled boy named Tsuna, at the school he goes to he is known for being a flunker due to the fact that he is not good at anything. In his spare time he likes watching the girl of his dreams walk by, but what he does not know is that is life is going to change forever after a certain meeting with someone. After a ordinary day at school meaning  a terrible one, Tsuna meets a tutor that is mom as hired to help him with his study’ s. When he first encouters his home tutor he is surprise by how small and baby looking he is, but it turns out that the tutor his an assasin sent to help Tsuna become a mafia boss. Not just any mafia but the head of the vangola family, as the story continues Tsuna will have to fight to keep his title as soon to be head of the vangola family. I think this is a great manga, the beginning was great for me, but for some people  after reading the first few chapters they start to get uninterested because its all about the comedy. When you hit around the fiftieth chapter it becomes a lot more fun, and I think more comedic.

Beelzebub is written and drawn by Tamara Ryuuhey. The story follows a delinquent highschool student with monstruous strength by the name of Oda, and the devils son beelzebub. The two first meet after a man was found by Oda in a stream, and happened to have a baby  in his chest which split open when he found him. He later meets Hilda, the baby’ s maid, and finds out that he has been chosen by the baby to be is parent. As the story continues Oda will  encounter  different people, always trying to find one person more evil  to replace him as the baby’ s parent, even though he wants to get rid Beelzebub, both there bonds grow stronger as the story continues. Each time Oda meets a different  evil foe who seem to be as evil as they get, over time change personality and join Oda in his wacky adventure. Each battle is a battle of strength and spirit between the two characters. Beelzebub is a great gag manga with a lot of laughs, and at moments will catch you by surprise by the different things Oga will do. The writer will do this to keep the readers more interested  and give them a good laugh., its a lot like the technique of bringing in new characters from out of the blue, its used to keep the readers interested. Over all its a great manga with a lot to come since it only started in  the begining of 2009.

Mashiro Hiro and Iwashiro Toshiaki

March 13th, 2010 by

Mashima Hiro, is a famous manga artist and writer for weekly shonen magazine. Mashiro Hiro was born may 3 1977 in the Nagano prefecture, and after highschool he joined an art school where he began to further is drawing skills. In an interview at comic con Mashimo reveals that he was inspired by the famous creator of dragon ball, and the creators of kinnikuman meaning Ultimate Muscle. After winning a amateur manga competition, by submiting a 60 page one shot for a review he decided to become a manga artist, and right off the bat he created Groove adventure Rave which lasted for more than 6 years, and it was big hit in japan, and it received an anime. In all his mangas Mashiro always finds a way to introduce  a certain  funny looking character called Plue, and in my own opinion if you choose to read rave master and Fairy tail you will notice that some of the characters look a lot a like. Mashiro Hiro’s aim is to please his readers, and to make fairy tail last longer than his previous manga Rave.

Iwashiro Toshiaki is a new manga artist and writer, born December 11, 1977  he wrote his first manga in 2005 which only made up to seven volumes, and it was a big let down for him, but he was not finished, he soon came back, and  started a new manga called Psyren in which he mentions in a interview he got his inspiration from the film Back to the future. Iwashiro cares a lot about the story scenes, and his audiences. He also believes that every chapter should end with the readers wondering what is going to happen, and the readers should always be interested. Iwashiro his getting more and more popular every day, and he is getting better with each chapter.

Two of the best mangas to read

March 8th, 2010 by

Fairy tail is the story of a young man called Nastu, and his companions. Set in a world where magic is part of the daily life, Nastu, a mage is a member of the very well known guild Fairy Tail. Nastu, a dragon slayer harnesses the power of fire to take on jobs which require a certain set of skills. As the story progresses Nastu will fight different kinds of mages, and he will encounter new friends and foes. When he was born, he was found by a dragon by the name of Ilfred who taught him all the skills he knows to this day , after many years with Nastu he disappeared and was never seen again. Fairy tail is a action packed manga filled with many different characters, and is hilarious at the same time, for just those reasons I would recommend this manga, yet I wish I could give you more details about Fairy Tail and why it is great.

Psyren starts off in Japan, and you soon meet a highschool boy called Yoshina Ageha who will help you with anything for 10 thousand yen(money used in japan like dollars), but he does not do it to help people, he does it as an excuse to run wild. One day when he is running home he is surprised by a mythical creature who hands him a calling card with the name Psyren, and than disappears. He recognises the name psyren as this as been mentioned by many classmates. The story he has been told that when you receive one of these cards you will disappear shortly after wards, and this he believes to be a myth . He remembers in the past he had found an identical card in the belongings of his childhood friend Amamiya Sakurako, and she had been extremely worried, and her last words to him were ” save me”. After a few days without seeing her, or any sign of contact , he than decides to go find her. Ageha must venture to the future to find Amamiya, and the mystery of what Psyren is deepens, and will be drawn into a crazy new world. Psyren is a great compelling story with a lot of action , and with every chapter it gets more and more serious, nor does it lose its touch has a manga

manga authors and artists

February 27th, 2010 by

In my previous blog I had talked about a few mangas one piece, bleach, eyeshield 21 and why I like them but I never mentioned who drew the manga and came up with the story’ s. Mangas need two things for it to work, a very good artist and a very good author sometimes it is actually one person doing both like One Piece. One Piece is written and drawn by Eiichiro Oda,  born january 1, 1975 he  was inspired by Astro boy and at at the age of 17 or 18  he summited his first chapter in 1992 called wanted to weekly shonen jump , it was a huge succsess winning the Tekuza award and many others. After he had sumited his first chapter he was awarded a job  as an assistant for Nobuhiro Watsuki who was writing and drawing the famous Ruroni Kenshin. Every year or so Eiichiro Oda would release a chapter of wanted and after a few years of been an assistant he finally decided to became an actuall manga artist and author for weekly shonen jump. His first ever manga was and still is One Piece, selling more than 116 million copies and a total of 575 chapters for One Piece.

Bleach is written and drawn by Noriaki Kubo or Tite Kubo, born june 26 1977 in the Hiroshima prefecture . In his third year of highschool he entered his first manga competition and lost due to lack of experience , even though he lost he received a phone call from one of the editors saying they should work on it together continue so he decided to continue to write and draw mangas. Finally in 1999 his first serialized manga was published in weekly shonen jump called Zombie Powder, it ran for one year making only 4 volumes and during  Zombie power Tite Kubo says he was in a state of emotional trauma. After one year Tite Kubo came up with a new manga called bleach but was rejected manly because they said it resembled too much  a manga that had already been in weekly shonen jump called Yu Yu Hakusho. A year passed  still hoping they would serialize it and they did, Tite Kubo expected bleach to run for only 5 years but its now been 8 years since it first started in 2002 making more than 300 chapters.

Eyeshield 21 consists of 1 author and 1 arstist not just 1 person doing everything. The author of eyeshield 21 is Riichiro Inagaki, born june 20 1976 in tokyo. Before joining weekly shonen jump he was with Big comic spirits magazine , he did a number of mangas for them like Square Freeze and any number of times on the 13th of june. At weekly shonen jump he won several awards for his story’ s , his most famous award was the story king. He was than put together with  Yusuke Murata, they both decided they wanted to draw an american football manga. Riichiro Inagaki new a lot about american football and he based some of  his characters and teams on real football players and teams. Eyeshield 21 artist Yusuke Murata was born july 4 1978 in Miyagi prefecture, when he was a boy he would submite a villain for a chance that wharacter would be in the famous arcade game Mega Man, he won twice. Before becoming a manga artist he was an assistant for Takeshi Obata the manga artist of the famous Death note, he states that is was a great experience for him as a manga artist . He also drew several one shots for weeky shonen jump, he first started drawing eyeshield 21 in 2002 to 2009 with Riichiro Inagaki making over 37 volume or 333 chapters and he had the honor of having an anime for Eyeshield 21 . It was the end for one of the best sport mangas in the world.

One Piece, Bleach, Eyeshield 21

February 27th, 2010 by

In this blog i’ m going to talk about the different shonen mangas that I find are really good. First off i’ ll explain what the manga is about and than I’ ll tell you why i find it good. Most of the people who have read mangas know of one piece but for those who do not know One Piece it is the adventures of a young pirate called Monkey D. Luffy and his sometimes crazy nakama. They will fight countless psychopaths to  help menial workers, justice or his friends. In his past Monkey D. luffy gained supernatural abilities by eating a devil fruit, his dream is to obtain the greatest pirate treasure and by doing so he wishes to become the pirate king. Just before the death of Gold D. Roger, he announced that he had hidden a treasure worth trillions and if someone were to find it they would become the next pirate king and since than nobody has ever found it.  One Piece was one of the first mangas I had read so I was not fond of mangas at that time but after reading the first few chapters I got  compelled more and more to read it. After reading all the chapters,  I found out that One Piece was more than 9 years old and was the largest selling manga in the world. On any site that involves mangas you will definitely see on piece and I urge you to read it because at times it will make you laugh and at other times it will get really serious.

bleach is a highly enjoyable manga about shinigamis (shinigami meaning a soul reaper), the story is about a young man called Ichigo Kurosakiwho possesses the ability to see ghost but this ability does not impact his life, no a close encounter with  a soul reaper called Rukia Kuchiki would change his life forever as he becomes a soul reaper himself and finds out he must now fight a terrifying force called hollows. Hollows are the souls of the people who have committed sins in their life and have come back as though they have had a manifestation of some sort making them atrocities and to get stronger they must kill good spirits who still roam the earth . The duty of a soul reaper is to send a spirit with a clean conscience back to soul society, their final resting place and exterminate hollows. Soul society is also the home of shinigamis which follow a form of hierarchy. As time goes on Ichigo will meet many allies and enemies and will be faced with denting tasks. This manga has a lot of twist and turns and the tension his always high , you will want to read more and more every chapter.

Eyeshield 21 is the story of a young and extremely small weak boy who has just entered freshman year of high school. The captain of the American football team  Hiruma witnesses his great talent and decides to make him join the football team and he will meet different people during his journey. As time passes he will be know has eyeshield 21 the best running back in Japan. If you feel like reading a sports about funny slogans, crazy and over the top friends, opponents and American football, I would recommend you read eyeshield 21.

The history of mangas

February 13th, 2010 by

First of all  I will explain what the term manga  means , its a Japanese word for  comic or cartoon. Nobody knows the exact date that mangas or manga drawings started , it is said that it dates from around the 12th century when people began to draw in black ink , others say that it started in the 18th century. After ww2 the Japanese had a surge of creativity after a law was passed on  censorship . It was a new era for artists. The first succsesful manga in Japan was Sasae-san written and drawn by Machiko Hasegawa it sold more than 62 millon copies over the next half century however the first big hit for mangas globally was Astro boy written and  drawn by Osamu Tekuza in 1951 it later became the first animated tv series followed by a film. At that time they were just two categories of manga. The first being a  shonen manga,  for boys under or at the age of  13 years old,and shojo meaning the exact opposite  , this was for girls under or at the age of 13 years old. After the 1950,s  there was an increase in popularity for mangas not just in japan but also around the world, more people started to buy mangas and some eventually would become manga artist and authors known as mangaka. In the 1960,s a company under the name of  shueisha published a magazine to compete with other shonen magazines it was called shonen jump. It became the most successful shonen magazine in Japan because they employed the most successful artist who developed some of the most classic mangas to date for examples, One Piece, Eyeshield21, Death Note and Bleach.   The first mangas were mainly comedy, action and sci-fi today there are more than  35 different kinds. Examples  are  adventure, fantasy, romance, supernatural and slice of life. The subject content has changed over the years due to lifestyle changes and many of the books are not just for children but also for adults.

Mangas not only exist in book form but now one can read a chapter a week or a chapter a month from the internet. These books have become so popular around the world they are sold in different countries and in many languages, this as lead to countries like China, France and the United States producing their own versions of the manga

What is Freedom of speech ?

February 10th, 2010 by

There are many defintions of freedom of speech , I chose a political definition of this. Freedom of speech is the liberty to express opinions and ideas without hindrance, and especially without fear of punishment. Freedom of speech is used everywhere around the world for various reasons either to protest against an idea , to protect ones self from a crime and the right to say what you feel.Freedom of speech for me is the right to say , write or publish you’re opinion and somebody elses opinion without using slander to insult others.People everywhere have been fighting for this right , there are still numerous places where this concept does not exist and there are some people who take advantage of this right .Yes we all know that freedom of speech has it’ s disadvantages , like there are a lot of cases between the government and someone who tries to take advantage of freedom of speech. There will always be matters of what is right and wrong , what is the right thing to say and the wrong thing to say.

Without freedom of speech blogs ,articles would not exist , it is a fact . As a blogger freedom of speech sets the limits on what I can say but it also tells me what I can write actually about.freedom of speech affects every blogger and it is just a matter if you are going to folow those limits or suffer the concequences of your actions. this is my first time writing a  blog and I’m starting  to undersand it bit by bit.In my future blogs I will be giving my opinions ,  I will not be saying in any of my blogs it’s the truth you must believe it or no it isn’t true . Like every blogger you might need to take a side on a matter without offending other people.
